The 2014 harvest has really got going. Basically it is late, fast and very light.
We started on the 10th of February – about two weeks later than normal. The first grapes in were the Sauvignon blanc, intended for a crisper component of our wine. As of today we harvested about two thirds of our Sauvignon blanc, half of the Chardonnay and all of the Viognier.
On average, the yields have decreased with 15 – 20%, but the quality is excellent. We expected this lower yield, due to bad flowering and the fact that we have had three large harvests in row, so the vines can be forgiven for taking things easy. The quality is a bonus, as we were concerned about the heavy rains. The rot there was, is now dry, and the flavours are very pure and very concentrated.
So we are more than 15% through harvest 2014 and all has gone well. Hope it continues.
