The Wacky Wine Weekend

It’s nearly time for the Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful Wacky Wine Weekend!

The Wacky Wine Weekend is biggest  annual festival in the beautiful Robertson wine valley –  50 wineries from Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson are taking part. This year marks the 9th edition of the festival and it runs for four days from 7 -10 June 2012.  Each day there’s a new theme: ‘Seriously Wine Thursday’, ‘Wine Up Friday’, ‘Full On Wacky Saturday’ or ‘Wine Down Sunday’.

For those of you who have been before, you’ll be familiar with the art of tailor making your own programme to take part in the range of activities on offer: ‘meet-the-winemaker’ tastings, vineyard tractor trips, river cruises, sunset game drives, cheese- and olive tastings, a farmers’ market, a simulated rodeo bull, the miles of smiles half-marathon and mountain bike challenge. There are also some of the new features including: Robertson Winter Market, original theatre act and a community tent with local performing artists. You can even watch the rugby. And there’s no chance of you going hungry with an array of gourmet delights from perlemoen to sushi on offer.

There’s plenty along the way for the children too:  a bouncy castle, farmyard tours, feeding farm animals, pony rides, paint-ball, side cars and face-painting.

We are really looking forward to welcoming visitors to Excelsior and sharing our programme of events. The vines are looking stunning in their autumn colours and the tasting centre on the dam is a fabulous place to enjoy wine and views with friends.

Visitors can blend, label and bottle their own ‘creation’ wine,  there are cellar tours with one of the owners, Peter de Wet, live music on Saturday night with Chris Els and Gerald Clark and an array of scrumptious food – from traditional Vetkoek to sophisticated sushi.

We have activities for children too: trips on the donkey cart and feeding the alpacas.

Thanks to Moreson Earthmovers we will also have the opportunity for you  to get down and dirty with a big digger! The proceeds to go Thula Thula, an initiative to support new born babies from underprivileged backgrounds in the Robertson area.

We really encourage people not to drink and drive; use designated drivers or the buddy bus.

Let the fun times begin!
